Did environmental activists and the media promote "global cooling" in the 1970s?

It wasn't promoted to nearly the same extent global warming is. They seemed to be somewhat rational and not act like they were late night psychics that knew the future like modern alarmists do. The modern alarmists have spent decades and many tens of billions of dollars trying to provide evidence for global warming. Global cooling was just a few alarmists that had a pet phobia. There were much bigger "global disasters" that were promoted like Acid Rain, Ozone depletion, Loss of the Rain forest, dying oceans, DDT, PCBs, Dioxin and maybe a few others that were bigger than global cooling.
