Men: when you fly a woman to see you?

We are in our mid 20s. We met while on vacation just 2 weeks before inviting me up to seen him. He bought my plane fix and now I'm scheduled to see him in just 2 more weeks, or so. I'm very excited to spend time with him and get to know him more. When he invited me I instantly thought of buying us a bottle of wine since we spoke about our preferences in wine when we first met. I just want to do something that would contribute to the trip and add a personal touch without being too personal/ too much...I also want to show my appreciation to him. Anyway, I thought of doing that automatically without any thought but since that time I've been hesitant to buy the wine because I don't want to cause a ruckus when bringing it by plane. Good thing is that checking a bag Of luggage is includedin the airfare but I don't want to delay our Friday Night plans since I am landing on a Friday night at 730pm in new York....after realizing this in thought I should have the wine shipped to his place when I as buy it online but then a friend of mine said that could give off the wrong signal....like I'm " too eager" or too desperate....I was told that I should just treat him to a lunch one day or to some drinks while were Out....but idk.....that just seems too much like the action was driven from obligation or from protocol and not driven from genuine appreciation. I could be wrong though. Anyway, guys....please tell me your thoughts,
